I wasn't sure if this post would come out in time because of how much work it turned out to be, but here we are! The power of procrastinating my homework, haha. Kids, don't follow my example.
So, I believe the reason my Kpop Activities post has recently had an insane surge in popularity is because of the Kpop Demon Hunters movie. ^^ Unfortunately for the people looking for Kpop activities for their kids’ birthday parties, that was not really the intention of that post, so it probably hasn’t been helpful in that regard. That’s what this post is for!
I know my core audience is largely in the teen range, though, so these games are fun for all ages, and don’t have to be played at a party! Grab your friends and get ready for a fun afternoon. :)
**I also made a Kpop Demon Hunters-inspired Spotify playlist for those of you who want BGM for your birthday parties. I tried to use Kpop songs that reminded me of songs from the KDH soundtrack. These are all clean Kpop songs that I haven't recommended on the blog yet, but maybe I will if I ever need to make a quick post during a busy week. (。0ᴗ<)✧
#1 Kpop Trivia
I know I mentioned Kpop quizzes as an activity in my previous post, but I figured I could provide some updated links that would be better for big groups to play together. Also, I linked some Kpop Demon Hunters quiz games in addition to general Kpop trivia, since I know not all fans of KDH are fans of Kpop in general. The linked games are just examples, but you could also make your own Kpop quiz games to play at a party using platforms like Kahoot!
#2 Charades
Here's some Kpop vocabulary if you need ideas
There are a few different ways you could play Kpop charades. One: you could make charade cards inspired by the KDH movie (e.g. Rumi, “Golden,” “Soda Pop” as charade words). Two: you could make charade cards based on your favorite groups and Kpop memes (e.g. BTS, “Gangnam Style”, aegyo). Three: you could do normal charades but the guessers have to say the word in Korean (e.g. act out a lion and the guessers have to say "사자").
#3 Song Guess/Headphones Game
You can use my playlist if you don't have your own ( >⩊<)
I couldn't find any video examples for this game, and it's just titled as "Headphones Game" in my drafts, lol. We played this game at my school once, but I have no idea where the student council got the idea for it.
For this game, there are two players playing at a time. A player wears headphones, and a song is played through the headphones for the player to try to sing for the other player to recognize. This is really funny when the player wearing the headphones is not familiar with the music, so you and your friends could exchange playlists for this. At my school, they had people who didn't know Kpop try to sing the songs for Kpop fans to guess. ( ≧▽≦)
#4 Kpop Taboo
More Kpop vocabulary if you need ideas
You could use PowerPoint slides for this, or paper cards similar to my charades suggestion. I'm going to write the instructions based on using a PowerPoint.
One player will face the screen while the other stands with their back to it. The player facing the screen has to describe the word on the screen without saying the word, while the other player has to guess what the word is. Similarly to charades, the words you choose to use for this game could be KDH-inspired or inspired by Kpop in general. I played a version of this game with my family where we had to describe the English word in Thai, so you could do that with Korean, if you and your friends want to practice your language skills. ( ^^)b
#5 Shout in Silence
Here's an Example! The game starts at 12:19 in the video.
This game will require words on PowerPoint slides or cards like the Charades and Taboo games. I'll reiterate this at the end of the post for those who don't read the middle of my posts too closely, but if you guys request it in the comments at the bottom, I can make a PowerPoint with words for you to use. If you do want it, please specify whether you're interested in something KDH-inspired or relating to Kpop in general!
For this game, one player faces the screen while the other stands with their back to it. The player facing the screen has to shout the word at the other player until they can guess it. To protect people’s ears, what I did when I played this game was to use earbuds playing distracting music for both players. They both also had to wear headphones over the earbuds. This way we could block out the outside sound while also not damaging their eardrums by turning the sound up too much.
#6 Finish the Song Line
Here's an Example! The game starts at 12:52 in the video.
For this game, a song line missing the last word(s) is provided. Players have to guess the last word(s) of the song line. For example, for the song "Golden" from Kpop Demon Hunters, the line could be: "We're going up-up-up / It's our moment / You know together we're __!" The missing word the players have to guess is "glowing."
#7 Try Not to Laugh Challenge
You guys know I love try-not-to-laugh challenges. ( >ᗜ<) I found a general Kpop video for this, but I'm sure you could find Kpop Demon Hunters videos too. If you guys want more clean, funny Kpop videos to watch, I have a whole playlist.
#8 Red Light, Green Light
Here's an Example! The game starts at the beginning of the video.
So obviously there is the version of this you can play that is Squid Games-inspired, but that is not a show I can be recommending on this blog, haha.
I loved playing this game modified to a theme for birthday parties as a kid, so you could do that for Kpop Demon Hunters, too. For example, you could play that the player counting is a demon hunter, and the rest of the players are demons who have to freeze so the hunter doesn’t see them.
#9 Sing-Off/Dance Battle
Some Song Suggestions If You Don't Know Where to Start
This game requires players who are either extremely confident, or who know the songs and dances for the game pretty well. For this game, one participant will sing the first half of the song and the other participant will sing the last half. This could alternatively be played where the players dance to the song. There also needs to be an elected judge to choose the winner. The judge can choose a winner based on accuracy, but style could also win points if you guys have flair.
One way we would play this game in my family is that the players get to hear the song or watch the dance one time through, and then they have to perform it. Obviously, this would be terrifying for some people at a party where they aren't super close with everyone, so that's why I saved this game for the end of the post. If you're playing with people you're comfortable with, it can be pretty hilarious though. ( ᗒᗨᗕ)
For dances like these where there's a group, you could do the center choreography or pick one person to follow
#10 Cooking Activity
I also recommended cooking on my previous post, and I know it's not a game, but I think it could still be a fun party/group activity. On my previous post I linked videos for Kpop-inspired snacks, but for this post I wanted to recommend making kimbap in honor of Kpop Demon Hunters! My sister and I make kimbap together pretty often when we hang out, and I have to say it's pretty fun and easy once you get the hang of it. :) It's also a Korean food that kids and people unfamiliar with Asian food still tend to like, so if you want to try something new, go for this!
Make sure to use the right rice for this and to cook it properly!
Hopefully you and your friends are all set for a fun afternoon, now! I mentioned this earlier, but if you guys request it in the comments below, I can make a PowerPoint with words for you to use for the charades and taboo games. If you do want me to do that, please specify whether you're interested in something KDH-inspired or relating to Kpop in general! Maybe I could link games that I've made the templates for in my next Kpop activities post! (˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶)
